Zogby: It's Not Over

Pollster John Zogby reminds us that the election is still up in the air and that it's close enough that anything can happen in these final days leading up to the big day.

I agree with him. Even though it's looking like Obama's to lose, I believe that there are a lot of voters staying quiet about how nervous they are about Obama. Not because they are racist but because of his PAPER THIN resume, his shady associations and "unidentified" money coming into his campaign. This will be the topic of this Sunday's show.....why some of us are truly concerned about relative to Obama's character and judgment.

Glad this is your Sunday topic because I for one am very pessimistic, largely because of McCain's apparent flawed strategic planning. He has successfully bolstered his base with Palin. But he has failed to figure out a way to convince the far right core that certain strategies must be adopted to lure the media-brainwashed and college-brainwashed youth Unfortunately, they are so blinded that all they see is an old crotchety, mean-spirited man (attack their savior) out of touch with the times. This is not true of course and this is why Palin was a good choice. U-Tube and ad spots need to be created with Obama talking intimately with small groups of college students about the issues, agreeing with them about how great a speaker and orator Obama is and how much respect he has for him ... and then sincerely pointing out the contradictions in his words. For example, in the last debate, show a clip where Obama says "Drilling isn't the answer!" juxtaposed with Obama asserting "We must drill off shore!" People are so hypnotized by his oratory genius that he could say "Of course, green is yellow, but we all know yellow is red." And people would nod in agreement though it doesn't make any sense. The best way is to graphically show it. Obama vs. Obama. And then maybe, MAYBE a light will come on, like snapping fingers coming out of a hypnotic spell. Actually show some of the outrageous blogs on MoveOn.org ... such as the ones claiming Bush planned 911 and Carl Rove is planning a terrorist attack to sway the election. Have McCain then ask them: "Do you really believe that?" That would be so effective in opening young minds ... the future of our great country.

I would like to have hope (not change!) for the outcome of these upcoming elections, but I do not see why. When I carefully analyze the RealClearPolitics.com polls, John McCain would have to overome Obama leads of as much as 8.7% in some states in order to beat him. An 8.7% lead with less than three weeks left, when we all know that Obama has been leading McCain for many months now (with only a short hiatus after the RNC), seems virtually impossible to overcome.

But if John McCain does manage to pull of an upset victory that would stun our nation and the world, I would breathe such a loud sigh of relief from here in Los Angeles, that Lores Rizkallah would be able to hear it all the way over in Houston. Just kidding.
